The Game Awards 2021: Indie Game It Takes Two räumt dreifach ab

Anders als im Vorjahr wurden die The Game Awards 2021 nebst des obligatorischen Live-Streams wieder vor einem Live-Publikum vergeben. Geoff Keighley hat das Event in der Nacht vom 9. auf den 10. Dezember 2021 aus dem Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles moderiert.

Indie Games des Abends: It Takes Two und Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Das erfolgreichste Indie Game des Abends hört auf den Namen It Takes Two. Das kooperative Adventure von Hazelight Studios gewann nicht nur in der prestigeträchtigen Kategorie »Game of the Year«, es überzeugte die Jury auch als bestes Multiplayer Spiel sowie bestes Familienspiel. Dass das Adventure zu den besten Indies des Jahres gehören würde, war nicht überraschend. Wir haben das Spiel bereits zu Jahresbeginn in unserer Top-100 der meisterwarteten Indie Games 2021 auf Platz drei gewählt.

Für die Kategorien Best Indie ist der Titel aus Schweden indes nicht nominiert gewesen. Hier setzte sich Kena: Bridge of Spirits von Ember Lab durch, das sich überdies auch über die Auszeichnung in der Kategorie Best Debut Indie freuen durfte. Das Fantasy-Adventure setzte sich in den beiden Kategorien gegen Hochkaräter wie Inscryption, Sable und Loop Hero durch.

The Game Awards 2021 ohne deutsche Beteiligung

Nach zwei Jahren in Folge mit deutscher Beteiligung, waren bei den The Game Awards 2021 keine Videospiele aus Deutschland unter den Nominierten. 2019 und 2020 Jahr durften sich immerhin noch die Indie Games Through the Darkest of Times (Paintbucket Games), Desperados (Mimimi Games) und Sea of Solitude (Jo Mei) Chancen auf einen Award machen.

Neben der Preisverleihung in 30 Kategorien gab es am Dezemberabend wieder musikalische Untermalung vom offiziellen The Game Awards Orchester sowie eine Vielzahl an Weltpremieren. Zu dessen Indie-Highlight zählen der humorvolle Platformer Have a Nice Death sowie das storybasierte Adventure Thirsty Suitors, das vom famosen Indie-Publisher Annapurna Interactive vertrieben wird.
